Jayasoma, K
As a PhD candidate at the Australian National University, Research School of Earth Sciences, I focus on marine biomineralization using a range of cutting-edge and traditional micro- to nano-analytical techniques. My work is interdisciplinary, bringing together aspects of aquaculture, biology, geochemistry, marine science, and materials science. My approach is to create new cross-disciplinary knowledge on fundamental marine biomineralization and geochemical processes. I apply this knowledge to improve paleoenvironmental and climatic reconstructions and deepen our understanding of how biominerals grow by studying their interactions with organic materials, aiming to develop new biomineralization models. Coming to ANU from Sri Lanka after completing my bachelor's degree, I am driven by curiosity and a passion for discovery to expand our knowledge of marine biomineralization, explore its geochemical implications, and understand its wider relevance within Earth sciences.
